The Osa Peninsula is a Costa Rican peninsula located on the southwest coast of the Pacific Ocean, bounded by Coronado Bay to the north and Dulce Gulf to the south. Administratively, the peninsula is located to the south of the province of Puntarenas. It is, along with the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the two most important peninsulas in the country.

Despite being a relatively small area, it contains a large number of tropical habitats: rain forests, coastal wetlands, mountain forests, etc. In this region the famous Corcovado National Park has been established, which constitutes the largest protected area in Costa Rica and which, according to National Geographic is "the most intense biologically active area in the world", in fact it is one of the places with the greatest biodiversity on the planet. Since the 1970s, when the park was founded, various Costa Rican and foreign authorities have worked together to provide protection to the natural resources that are included in this strategic peninsula. One of the rawest and wildest places to experience fishing in Costa Rica is the Osa Peninsula. You won't be spending your nights in a five-star skyscraper with Miami beach-style bars and shops, but you will be listening to the sounds of one of the jungles come to life around you at night in one of the most biological places in the world. various destinations. Two equally interesting options are available for those looking to pluck roosterfish or billfish from the waters of Costa Rica's Golfo Dulce or the fertile blue waters that surround the Peninsula on the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The easiest option is a single-engine plane flight over the majestic mountain range of the central valley of Costa Rica, part of the same continental divide that forms the Rocky Mountains and extends through Central and South America to Tierra del Fuego. Flying over mountains covered with lush tropical forests and over snake like Río Sierpe (an amazing mangrove system that looks like a giant snake wriggling from the air) until you reach the edge of the rainforest that seems to fall and bathe in the  Golfo Dulce de Costa Delicious.                             

There are three runways to visit Osa - Puerto Jiménez, Drake Bay or Golfito. Most fly to Puerto Jiménez as most of the tourist infrastructure can be found there, including access to many experienced fishing captains. Drake Bay is situated in an incredibly beautiful location with access to part of the Corocovado National Park and the incredible Aguila de Osa Lodge, filled with those looking to snorkel around Caño Island or fish offshore in the billfish paradise of Costa Rica or the legendary Serpe River, the largest mangrove system in Costa Rica that rivals even the Tortuguero canals in terms of biodiversity.

Golfito, like Puerto Jiménez, is also an option for those who want to be directly on the Golfo Dulce to target one of the most diverse coastal fisheries on the planet. The Golfo Dulce is home to several world record captains, as well as roosterfish over 70 pounds, pit bull like cubera snapper, as well as some 10 or more varieties of snapper, elusive black bass, and even tuna and sometimes dorado. in the gulf. There are a few private marinas located in this neat little waterfront town, which was once the home of United Fruit and is now a famous drop-off point for yachts and fishing boats.
